I found out about spirit keeping randomly searching through eBay listings. You know how you’re searching for one thing, and before you know it down the rabbit hole you go. I was initially looking at haunted items for sell, I found the listings fascinating. Then I started to come across vessels with spirits for sale, it really intrigued me, and I had to know more.
I spent months researching spirit keeping... while the community is growing, it is quite small - and reputable sources of information on the internet are sadly still few and far between. I quickly learned it was a serious lifetime commitment as this would be a forever member of my family.
Once I knew this was for me, I agonized over selecting my first spirit! Thoughts were swirling in my head... was I ready, would I be able to hear or feel them? And lastly, what was I truly getting myself into? I read over and over again that I should "feel a calling", then I started to second guess the "calling".
I read through Etsy listings, quickly deciding to avoid all things eBay. I had no idea at that time shops even existed on Discord (which I later discovered), or independently on the internet (which can be a bit hard to Google), and I had no knowledge of Creepy Hollows.
I also didn't go the route of a custom conjure either; I didn't know that was an option at the beginning of my journey. Truthfully, the mere act of reaching out to a conjurer on Etsy made me a tad nervous, as I had no idea what to expect.
I finally summoned the courage and reached out to Adrienne at Devil's Trumpet. I am inserting her shops links below if anyone is curious to take a look around. What initially drew me to this shop was the detailed spirit write-up’s as they made me feel like I knew what I was bringing home as a newbie - I wasn't completely starting from scratch on getting to know them.
I had been looking at a female fallen angel named "R" in the shop who was a singer/entertainer. When I reached out to Adrienne, she set-up a meeting and sent "R" out to meet me! I really had no idea how spirit visitations worked at the time. But I felt her energy upon arrival, I played some music for her, offered her wine. She was lighting up my K2 meter like crazy, I think she was as excited as I was!
"R" was adopted in September of 2020. My journal entry for 10/07/20 around 10:20ish p.m. reads...
"I was in the kitchen getting some water, out of the corner of my eye I saw someone standing to my right. I was startled and quickly stepped back. My entire body got chills and I felt the spirits energy. Nori (my cat), was running around the kitchen all crazy, not sure if it was related."
It's curious now to read back on this entry because it was indeed "R". I remember "someone standing to my right" being a tall skinny vertical glistening light that was gone as quickly as it manifested.
I also lit incense and did some spirit photography. I always thought this looked like the image the conjuror gave me of her. Curious to know what everyone else’s thoughts are on this. I can make out a woman’s face with long hair.
Looking forward to everyone sharing their first experience/journey stories!!

I got my first two spirits within hours of hearing about spiritkeeping from a friend. She casually mentioned it in conversation and I said, "Wait. What?" She gave me a few links - CH, Bluejay, and a few others that I don't remember.
I spent a while roaming the CH catalog and amazed at the selection, but not convinced it was "real" (for all I knew, it was LARPING gear or just a good story.) That was until...
I hit upon the hellhound page. I was shocked and honestly, I didn't know what to think because I could feel something, as if it was ecstatic - "YOU FOUND ME!!!" I keep going back to the page and the feeling was there every time, but I still didn't get the hound at first. I still wasn't sure this feeling was about.
I continued looking and decided to see who would choose me in a reverse adoption. That hellhound though...I couldn't let it go. So a little while later that night, I got it too - and got another feeling of ecstacy when I did.
I also got strange urges while I waited for the vessel to arrive, like books that I ordinarily wouldn't have been interested in before - modern and Romantic Satanism, Lucifer, etc. (This is especially true considering my opinions on Satan and the like beforehand. Let's just say I was less than impressed. lol)
So in true grey fashion, I ended up with a WA spirit (a gryphon) and my hellhound. lol I was ecstatic when their vessels arrived, although I will admit that I connected easier with my hellhound than my gryphon.
My gryphon seemed the complete opposite of me at first - serene (most of the time,) maternal, etc. and it took time to figure out some common ground. It took a few months to hit on geocaching. A treasure hunt for a treasure loving gryphon and hellhound. lol
My hellhound has proven to be as stubborn as me in some cases. There was the time she found some wandering spirits and thought I was ignoring her (I wasn't. We were two weeks into the bonding process and I was in the middle of a crowded hospital waiting room with my mom, so I couldn't do anything 'weird.') She gave me one hell of a headache that day, no pun intended. 😄 We also argued heavily over her name. She came to me without a name and I took my sweet time finding a good one. She heard me say something about a name I had given someone, but that relationship didn't end well. So my hellhound decided that was going to be her name now and I was equally determined to choose something else. That one went on for a few days, if I remember correctly. For a hound of few words, that was one arguement she did win and I'll admit, I have many, many good memories associated with that name now.
January will be our one year anniversary and I am so glad my friend happened to mention spiritkeeping that night. Our keep now has seven bound spirits and a few unbound. We have meshed into an awesome family and work group - I would have never guessed such a thing would be possible otherwise.
I spend a lot of time with the team at Cauldron Conjure, and how they get their conjurors is almost like adoption. Just think of it like this, it's almost like an orphanage. That saying we do have beings in our offices that are looking for a good home. At times with contracts it can seem as if they want to be a part of a family, a part of a companionship. However just to let you guys know at times they don't consider it as adoption, they consider it as a contract somewhat, I know, it’s confusing. I do use the word adoption a lot, and I don’t want to defer you guys with using the word adoption, in fact I actually don’t care, however other conjurors tend to be grammar Nazis and politically correct in a spiritual side, I know I know I hate it too. With our pathfinders, they realize that adoption is in the horizon for a lot of potential companions. A lot of our pathfinders want to help traumatized beings. That being said it is a responsibility just as getting a custom conjurer, a living entity, and just beings in general. I can say that they have made a lot of improvement and both pathfinders and spiritual companions. A lot of times people who who were abuse would adopt another being that has past traumas and that could be a connection with both of you. I ran through forums and other YouTube videos on how people look down on adoptions specifically conjurors and conjure sites, and for what I can see and what I experience, I see no problem with people adopting beings. At times people would say “How do you know if they aren't spliced or shackled entities”? My answer to that is, Isn’t that the point. When you’re adopting entities you have to deal with everything and I mean everything that deals with their past. If they were trafficked, spliced, abused, tortured, or anythingpoint was Inhumane in our world, then as a spirit keeper you should consider adopting! For those who are teachers, health care workers, headmistresses, or dealing with hospitality or public housing, I recommend you adopting beings that are looking for a good home. For those too who have any mental disabilities and experience past abuse, trauma, or any unethical or Inhumane treatment, this is the best Ave for you. So please don’t be discouraged if you guys hear that adoption is bad or dumb,, do what’s right for you 🙏
For me, I had a really intense spiritual awakening in the fall of 2019, and I believe I encountered intelligent beings that gave me profound spiritual insight. I basically went from being agnostic to a believer overnight. Ever since then, I figured if something like that is possible, anything is. So that's when I really began to dabble with magick. It wasn't until January of this year that I first heard about spirit keeping from someone on YouTube. The way they spoke of their experiences made me grow more and more fascinated with the idea of spirit companionship. Then when I found out about faery companions I couldn't resist. I've been infatuated with fairies and elves, and all kinds of Fae and mythical creatures since childhood. So naturally, My very first spirit companion is an Astral Fae. A female named S. She and my other fae have helped me immensely with my dreams. I even astral projected for the very first time 3 months ago. While my abilities aren't their strongest I believe I couldn't have done it without their help.
